Community Recreation Volunteer Opportunities

Summary:

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities in Community Recreation. Participate in an opportunity that best suits your interests. Some opportunities include: Coordinator or organizer (e.g. Older Adult programs) Program support (e.g. Swimming or camp programs) Special events These volunteer opportunities can be used towards the 40 hours of community service required for high school graduation. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to keep records of volunteer hours earned and complete and turn in any school forms related to volunteering. Not all community recreation centres offer volunteer opportunities. Contact your local community recreation centre to find out what volunteer opportunities exist in your area.

Criteria:

The Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information form (if applicable) must be completed and signed by all applicants (regardless of age or ability) in order for a Vulnerable Sector Screening to be processed. Toronto City Council has authorized the use of Vulnerable Sector Screenings as an assessment tool when assigning volunteer activities to individuals. The City of Toronto will process (at no cost to the volunteer) Vulnerable Sector Screenings for volunteers that live in Toronto. For individuals living outside of Toronto, the local police service must be contacted directly and fees will not be reimbursed by the City of Toronto.

Before volunteering, individuals are required to: fill out a community volunteer intake form or event volunteer registration form complete the Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information form provided by staff and obtain a satisfactory result from a Vulnerable Sector Screening (if applicable) show Government identification consisting of legal name, photo and birth date. Youth under the age of 18 may use a student card to meet the photo requirement participate in one or more orientations Don’t miss out on a volunteer opportunity. The Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information form (if applicable) can take several months for Toronto Police Services to process so be sure to fill it out in advance of the volunteer opportunity of interest.
